One ipod down.
I am trying to resuscitate it with my hairdryer as we speak.
Well, you might be thinking that it serves me right for running out there in the rain. Â I’m not that crazy! Â I was all pumped and ready to run today. I ate a very healthy dinner. No beer. Early to bed etc. Â It takes a lot of prep work to run 18 miles.
Out of bed at 5:30am. Â Put on my running shoes. Â Donned my new crazy water bottle belt. Â Stepped out the door ……. Â CRASH/BOOM (storm noises). Â Well I turned right around and went back to bed. Â Im no fool.
Up again at 7:00am. Â Birds singing. Â Sun shinning. Â Off to run! Â I started my first loop and it was actually quite perfect weather. Â Cool and wet after the rain. Â Then about 4 miles into the loop. Â Things were looking pretty ominous. Â VERY dark and bolts of lightning everywhere. Â Of course I am trying to ignore this while I grove out to Girl Talk. Â What else can I do? Â I am halfway around the loop. Â So I keep trudging along into the impending doom. Â And boy did it doom on me.
I made it back around but with only 9 miles logged. Â I desperately wanted to check the 18 off my list. Â I hate to admit I actually took off running for a second loop when some guy with a dog asked me if that was good idea. Â I stopped and reflected as one often does when old folks with dogs ask you what the hell you are doing. Â I wish I had a more triumphant ending and “Eye of the Tiger” could play as I told you about the final nine miles in my quest. Â But I decided it might be best to pack it up for today and try 18 again soon. Â All I could think about was my husband forbidding me to go to Europe because I wasn’t responsible enough to get myself out of a thunderstorm.
Disappointing. Â Yes. Â But I will live to run another day.

Tracy Featherstone is an Associate Professor of Art at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She will be teaching on the Miami University Luxembourg campus Fall 2009. Featherstone met the Kenney family about 12 years ago. Lisa Kenney was a work colleague, companion, and artistic influence. Tom Kenney saved Featherstone’s life multiple times through his medical knowledge and good advice. Featherstone and husband (before we were married!), Craig Clements were one of Esme’s first babysitters.
